Simple Family Tree
Creation and Sharing

Because you might not want a full-featured ancestry site

What you get

Your own site

yourname.MyFamilyTree.Site
Even your own domain if you want one.

Your membership

Invite Uncle Milton, or don’t.
Allow him to contribute, or don’t.
You make those decisions.

Control over your data

We use standard software.
We’d hate to see you go.
But if you do, you can take it all with you and install it anywhere else.

What you don’t get

No frills – No complications

Other sites want to impress you with features.
We try to balance between simplicity and usability.

No annoying upsells – No bothersome emails

We don’t want to sell you services.
We’re not in the geneology business.
We just provide a place to put your stuff.

Choose your site

One size does not fit all.
To get the right fit for your purposes, we offer two site styles.
Choose for yourself.
Or use our survey forms to see what your family thinks.

Basic Style

Simple and oriented toward pictures and text

  • Create pages for individual family members
  • Add pictures, dates, stories
  • Family members can comment
  • Tree structures link to pages
  • Blog about events, historical or current
  • Based on WordPress and related plugins

Pro Style

Simple but more what people expect from a “genealogy site”

  • More links among people, time, and places
  • Attractive charts
  • Categorized reports
  • Interactive maps
  • Statistics
  • Based on WebTrees

We Support
Free and Open Source Software
F.O.S.S.

Ecosystem

We participate in forums to help others who use the same software.

Documentation

Whenever possible we try to contribute to FOSS docs to help others.

Code

When possible we offer patches, enhancements, comments, testing, and other contributions to code.

Donations

When possible we try to support software authors with cash, coffee, beer, pizza, or whatever other tangible remuneration they ask to keep interest in their creations. To do this we rely on subscriptions to our value-add offerings, so that we can pass on some percentage to those who make it all possible.

Marketing

We try to spread the word about good software that we use, to encourage others to use it and to support the authors.

About FOSS

We will provide information here in blogs about FOSS in general, FOSS we use here, and FOSS that we rely on to provide these and other services. It’s good to be a good citizen in the FOSS community, to pay forward, pay back, and show support for those who provide us with tools and services.

I’d love to record my family history, I just don’t want to deal with family history websites.
